Background

Micron Technology (NASDAQ: MU) shares surged in morning trading, gaining 6.3% to reach $1,008.48 as investors bought the dip following a recent correction. The move marks a significant rebound for the memory chip maker, whose stock had fallen approximately 22% from a record high set in late June.

Record Results and Bullish Outlook

The rally is underpinned by the company's exceptional recent performance and forward-looking statements. Micron reported fiscal third-quarter revenue of $41.46 billion, a 346% year-over-year increase, and provided landmark fourth-quarter revenue guidance of approximately $50 billion. Adding to the positive sentiment, Micron also announced it would increase its U.S. investment plans to $250 billion through 2025.

Wall Street analysts have reinforced the bullish case, with Barclays maintaining its Overweight rating and raising its price target to $2,000. Melius Research holds an even higher target of $2,200 per share, suggesting significant upside potential even after the recent gains.

Sector Strength and Demand Visibility

Broader industry trends are providing a powerful tailwind for the stock. A recent UBS report highlighted that global monthly memory sales hit a record $74.6 billion, with DRAM sales up 27.7% and NAND sales up 40.7% month-over-month. These figures support the thesis of a structural supply shortage amid soaring demand.

Micron has secured long-term demand visibility through 16 strategic customer agreements, locking in over $22 billion in committed revenue. The company also noted its high-bandwidth memory (HBM) capacity is fully booked through 2027 and into 2028, underscoring the sustained demand from the artificial intelligence sector. Further evidence of strong investor appetite for the space came from the heavily oversubscribed U.S. ADR offering for rival SK Hynix, which drew more than seven times the available shares.
