Kalshi Reports Commodity Trading Volume Tops $400 Million Monthly

Prediction market startup Kalshi announced Tuesday that its commodities trading platform has surpassed $400 million in monthly volume, achieving a key growth milestone just seven months after its launch. The company reported this growth rate is four times that of its cryptocurrency markets at the same point in their development, signaling strong retail appetite for new ways to trade on assets like oil, gas, and metals.
Rapid Adoption and Liquidity
According to a company statement, the rapid uptake of its commodity prediction markets is driven by a boom in retail trading. Kalshi co-founder Tarek Mansour, in an interview with Reuters, attributed the success to improved liquidity on the platform, which is crucial for market health.
"Liquidity is very hard to get off the ground because of how many people you need participating actively, so that every time you come to Kalshi and you want to enter into a position, you can enter it, and whenever you want to exit at that position, you can exit it," Mansour said. He added that achieving this critical mass of participation allows the platform to launch and scale new market categories more quickly.
Market Expansion and Future Plans
AdBuoyed by the strong performance in commodities and a revenue windfall from its 2026 FIFA World Cup partnership, Kalshi is actively expanding its product offerings. The company stated that the faster ramp-up in commodities demonstrates its accelerating ability to scale new markets.
Kalshi is now exploring the introduction of perpetual future contracts across various asset classes. It has filed with regulators for permission to list contracts based on:
- Equity indexes
- Metals
- WTI crude oil
This move follows regulatory approval for similar investment vehicles for cryptocurrency earlier in the year, indicating a potential path forward for Kalshi's proposed products.
