Background

Holtec Nuclear Corp. has suspended its plans for a U.S. initial public offering that was scheduled to price on Thursday, citing adverse market conditions, according to a Bloomberg report. The nuclear-services firm said it would continue to evaluate the timing for a future offering.

Offering Details and Financials

The Camden, New Jersey-based company had been seeking to raise up to $900 million by offering 50 million shares within a price range of $15 to $18 each. Holtec's business includes supplying casks for storing nuclear waste, decommissioning retired reactors like New York's Indian Point, and developing its own small modular reactor technology.

For the six months ended June 30, Holtec reported $205.6 million of net income on $269.9 million of revenue. This compares to $139.1 million in net income and $286.6 million in revenue for the same period a year earlier. The planned offering was being led by a syndicate of major banks, including JPMorgan, Guggenheim Securities, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, and Bank of America.

According to Bloomberg, other recently listed nuclear firms have underperformed:

  • Standard Nuclear, which went public in July, was trading 21% below its IPO price as of Wednesday's close.
  • X-Energy, which listed in April, was down 37% from its initial offering price.
