On the other end of the spectrum, telecommunications giant Nokia Oyj (HE:NOKIA) was the session's worst performer, falling 3.03% to trade at 10.24. AdDespite the index's slight gain, overall market breadth was negative. Data from the Helsinki Stock Exchange showed 90 stocks falling compared to 76 that advanced, with 25 issues closing unchanged. This indicates that the positive performance was concentrated in a selection of the index's larger components.

The strength in Helsinki's energy sector coincided with a rally in global oil prices. Brent crude for September delivery was up 2.41% to $85.31 a barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude for August delivery rose 1.73% to $79.49 a barrel.
In currency markets, the euro gained against the U.S. dollar, with the EUR/USD pair up 0.41% to 1.14. This move came as the US Dollar Index Futures, which measures the greenback against a basket of currencies, declined by 0.34% to 100.69.
