Groupe ADP August Traffic Stagnates as Paris Passenger Numbers Fall

Groupe ADP reported a marginal 0.1% increase in total passenger traffic across its global network in August, as a significant drop in passenger numbers at its main Paris hubs nearly erased gains from its international operations. The company handled a total of 37.5 million passengers during the month.
According to the airport operator, traffic continues to be affected by reduced flight schedules related to the Middle East conflict, elevated fuel prices, and various operational constraints across its platforms.
Paris Hubs Report August Decline
Traffic at Paris Aéroport, which includes the Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports, fell by 3.2% year-over-year to 10.1 million passengers. The decline was most pronounced at Paris-Orly, which saw a 7.4% drop to 3.2 million passengers, while Paris-Charles de Gaulle handled 6.9 million passengers, a more modest decrease of 1.1%.
The steepest regional traffic declines for the Paris airports were seen in routes connecting to:
- The Middle East: -6.2%
- Latin America: -5.5%
- North America: -5.3%
Mixed Results from International Airports
AdOutside of France, the airport operator's portfolio showed a diverging performance. Turkey-focused TAV Airports reported a 5.1% increase in traffic to 14.7 million passengers, driven by strong growth in Ankara and Medina.
Conversely, India-based GMR Airports experienced a 2.6% decline, handling 9.4 million passengers. Groupe ADP noted that its figures now include the new Bhogapuram Airport in India, which opened on August 17.
Year-to-Date Traffic Remains Above Pre-Pandemic Levels
Despite the sluggish August results, Groupe ADP's performance for the first eight months of the year shows a slight overall increase. Total group traffic from January to August rose 0.2% to 253.3 million passengers.
For investors tracking the travel industry's recovery, this year-to-date figure represents 110% of the traffic recorded during the same period in 2019, indicating that passenger volumes remain solidly above pre-pandemic levels.
