Background

Shares of Global Payments (GPN) climbed 3.6% in pre-market trading after Morgan Stanley upgraded the stock to Overweight from Equal-Weight, signaling renewed confidence in the company's growth prospects.

Analyst Cites Strengthening Business

In a note to clients, Morgan Stanley analyst James Faucette raised the firm's price target on Global Payments to $100 from a previous $65. The upgrade follows improved field checks on the company's Genius point-of-sale platform and its recently acquired Worldpay product suite.

The analyst cited strengthening traction for these offerings among both small-to-medium businesses and larger enterprise clients. According to the report, this supports a durable mid-single-digit revenue growth trajectory. The move represents a significant reversal, as Morgan Stanley had only recently resumed coverage of the stock with a neutral stance.

Financial Outlook and Market Context

Morgan Stanley also pointed to the company's share repurchase program as a key driver for value. The firm raised its estimates for buybacks, viewing them as a meaningful lever for expanding earnings-per-share (EPS).

The bullish call comes just ahead of Global Payments' second-quarter 2026 earnings report, which is scheduled for release on August 3. The stock's advance was supported by a modest tailwind from the broader market, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite posting gains in early trading.
