FlyEdge Launches Public Preview of Blockchain for Tokenized Airline Loyalty

FlyEdge, a B2B platform specializing in tokenizing airline loyalty programs, has launched a multilingual public preview of its technology. The preview allows airlines, travelers, and media to test the full on-chain cycle of creating, transferring, and redeeming loyalty tokens, according to a company announcement on August 24, 2026.
A New Approach to Loyalty
The platform operates on StreamChain, an EVM-compatible mainnet that FlyEdge says was specifically designed for the aviation industry. A key feature of the preview is a "token factory" that gives airlines direct control over their loyalty currency, including the ability to issue, mint additional tokens, burn, and transfer them.
This model is designed to address a long-standing concern for airlines regarding the tokenization of loyalty points. Carriers have been cautious about making miles more liquid, as this could impact breakage—the portion of miles that are issued but never redeemed, which represents a significant factor in the economics of loyalty programs.
"Airline loyalty doesn’t need another general-purpose chain. It needs infrastructure that understands how airlines actually operate," said John Kim, founder and chief technology officer of FlyEdge. The company stated its goal is to provide a shared infrastructure for authentication and settlement while leaving control over value and conversions in the hands of the airlines.
Market Context and User Experience
AdInterest in using blockchain for airline loyalty is not new, with earlier experiments including Air France-KLM’s “Miles on Blockchain” proof of concept in 2017–2018. FlyEdge's approach focuses on maintaining the existing business models that airlines rely on.
For travelers, the platform aims to simplify the user experience, which has often been a barrier to blockchain adoption. Key features include:
- Non-custodial smart accounts secured by passkeys, eliminating the need for seed phrases.
- Sponsored network fees, so users do not need to hold gas tokens.
- Four traveler-facing experiences named PASSPORT, SHOW, LAST CALL, and LOUNGE.
FlyEdge emphasized that the preview, released on August 20, 2026, is a demonstration and does not represent a commercial deployment with any external airlines. The company's broader ambition is to create an "aviation settlement layer" that makes loyalty value a more transparent and auditable asset for both airlines and their customers.
