Scaling to Meet Demand
The transition comes as CT3's platform has experienced rapid expansion, reaching over 180,000 unique users and processing more than 500,000 file uploads, according to the company. Each upload is verified on-chain via an NFT access key. This growth has strained the previous infrastructure, which processed all new data through a single main smart contract, creating potential scaling bottlenecks.
The new model will distribute workloads across multiple, dedicated Storage Contracts. Each contract will function as an independent segment of the network, with its own fixed storage capacity and on-chain statistics, allowing for more flexible and manageable expansion.
A New Economic Model
The Storage Contracts introduce a new economic layer to the CT3 ecosystem. Participants can finance the deployment of new contracts, effectively funding the addition of new storage capacity to the network. This capacity is then used to store data for users of the ct-3.cloud service.
AdProfits generated from storage fees—the margin between the cost of acquiring storage from node operators and the price charged to end-users—are then shared between CT3 and the participant who financed the contract. The financial performance of each contract is directly tied to two key factors:
- The actual utilization of its allocated storage capacity.
- The market-based margin on storage services.
On-Chain Verification and User Impact
CT3 emphasized that the new system is designed for transparency, with the performance and activity of each Storage Contract verifiable on the blockchain. By inspecting a contract's address, participants can independently confirm the number of NFT keys issued, the volume of data stored, and the capacity utilization.
For end-users of the ct-3.cloud platform, the company stated the experience will remain unchanged. All existing and new NFT access keys will continue to be supported, and the backend transition requires no action from users.
