Coca-Cola Beats Q3 Estimates and Lifts Guidance, But Shares Dip Amid Headwinds

The Coca-Cola Company (KO) reported third-quarter earnings and revenue that surpassed analyst estimates and raised its full-year financial guidance, though its shares traded slightly lower as investors digested the results against a backdrop of significant year-to-date gains.
Strong Q3 Performance
The beverage giant posted adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of $0.91 on revenue of $13.40 billion for the third quarter, according to its report on October 27. These figures beat consensus estimates of $0.88 for EPS and $12.93 billion for revenue, marking the company's fourth consecutive earnings beat.
Growth was underpinned by a 7% increase in organic revenue. The company stated this was driven by a 5% rise in global unit case volume, demonstrating resilient consumer demand, alongside a 4 percentage point contribution from pricing and product mix. Profitability also improved, with comparable gross margin expanding by approximately 170 basis points and comparable operating margin growing by about 110 basis points.
Upgraded Full-Year Outlook
Following the strong quarterly performance, Coca-Cola lifted its guidance for the full 2026 fiscal year. The company now anticipates:
Ad- Organic revenue growth of at least 5%.
- Comparable EPS growth of at least 11% from its 2025 base of $3.00.
- Free cash flow of at least $13 billion.
Headwinds Temper Investor Enthusiasm
Despite the positive report, Coca-Cola's stock fell 1.01% in trading on October 27. The muted reaction follows a more than 31% year-to-date rally that has pushed the stock near its 52-week high, leaving little room for error in the eyes of some investors.
Concerns remain over several potential challenges. North American volume was flat, which management attributed to the timing of the July 4th holiday and temporary supply issues. The company's CFO also noted that pressure on away-from-home channels like restaurants is expected to last through the end of the year and into 2027. Furthermore, the fourth quarter is expected to face headwinds from six fewer selling days and rising logistics costs.
