Bitcoin Slips Below $65,500 as Geopolitical Tensions and Tariff Concerns Weigh on Markets

Bitcoin's price fell on Friday, dipping below the $65,500 level as a broader risk-off sentiment took hold across global markets. The decline was primarily attributed to heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and renewed concerns over international trade disputes, according to a report from Investing.com.
Macro Headwinds Pressure Crypto
Investor caution grew following reports that Iran-backed Houthi militants in Yemen attacked two Saudi ships in the Red Sea. This escalation fueled fears of a wider conflict and potential oil supply disruptions, contributing to a risk-averse mood that often negatively impacts speculative assets like cryptocurrencies.
Adding to the uncertain economic outlook, the U.S. administration announced a new raft of trade tariffs impacting 60 trading partners, which were set to take effect Friday. While these macroeconomic factors do not directly impact cryptocurrency infrastructure, their potential to slow economic growth tends to reduce investor appetite for higher-risk assets.
Market Performance and ETF Flows
By 02:36 ET (06:36 GMT), Bitcoin was trading down 0.5% at $65,463.4. Despite the session's losses, the leading cryptocurrency was on track to close the week with a modest gain of approximately 1% following a short-lived rebound earlier in the week.
AdIn a contrasting development, capital flows into crypto investment products showed some improvement. Data from SoSoValue, cited by Investing.com, indicated that spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) experienced their strongest weekly inflow since early May, suggesting continued underlying institutional interest.
Altcoins Follow Broader Trend
Other major cryptocurrencies also retreated on Friday, mirroring the negative sentiment seen in Bitcoin and traditional equity markets. Key digital assets posted the following declines:
- Ether (ETH): -1.9% to $1,887.96
- XRP: -2.0% to $1.1134
- Solana (SOL): -2.2%
- Cardano (ADA): -4.0%
