Bitcoin Holds Near $64,000 as Traders Await Key US Jobs Data

Bitcoin's price held steady in a tight trading range on Friday as investors awaited a crucial U.S. jobs report that is widely expected to influence the Federal Reserve's stance on interest rates.
The world's largest cryptocurrency traded down 0.7% to $64,404.2 in early trading, according to Investing.com data. Despite the daily dip, Bitcoin was on track for a weekly gain of 2.5% but remained largely confined within a $62,000 to $65,000 channel.
Payrolls Data Looms Over Markets
Market participants are closely watching the upcoming U.S. nonfarm payrolls data for signals about the health of the labor market. Signs of continued resilience could bolster the case for the Federal Reserve to maintain a restrictive monetary policy to combat inflation.
Higher interest rates typically increase the appeal of yielding assets like bonds and can create headwinds for non-yielding, speculative assets such as cryptocurrencies. The Fed's latest meeting minutes indicated that policymakers remain concerned about persistent inflation.
Miner Earnings Highlight Sector Headwinds
AdAdding to sector-specific pressure, major U.S. Bitcoin miner MARA Holdings (NASDAQ:MARA) reported weaker-than-expected second-quarter earnings on Thursday. The company posted a significant loss per share of $1.60, starkly missing analyst expectations for a profit of $0.350, while its revenue of $174.9 million also fell short of forecasts.
The disappointing results, which marked the company's third consecutive quarterly loss and sent its stock down over 5%, underscore the challenging environment for miners amid volatile Bitcoin prices. MARA reiterated plans to pivot further into providing computing resources for the artificial intelligence industry.
Altcoin Performance Mixed
The broader cryptocurrency market reflected a cautious and mixed sentiment ahead of the economic data release.
- Ether (ETH), the second-largest crypto, fell 0.4% but was up 3.3% for the week.
- XRP declined 2.4% on the day and was down over 3% for the week.
- Solana (SOL) was down 1.6%, remaining flat on a weekly basis.
- Cardano (ADA) was a notable outperformer, surging 15% over the week.
