Background

ASM International's CEO, Hichem M’Saad, stated the company will surpass its newly issued 2027 revenue forecast of €5.7 billion ($6.34 billion), citing powerful demand from the artificial intelligence sector. However, he cautioned in a Reuters interview on Wednesday that ongoing supply chain constraints could moderate the extent of the outperformance.

CEO Signals Further Upside

In the interview, M’Saad confirmed that the Dutch semiconductor equipment maker would achieve more than the €5.7 billion revenue target for 2027 that the company provided on Tuesday. He noted the final figure would depend on several factors, with supply chain stress being a primary consideration for how much the company can exceed its goal.

The CEO's remarks add to a bullish outlook presented by the company a day earlier, when it announced it would reach its 2030 sales target three years ahead of schedule. ASMI attributed the accelerated growth to significant AI-related capacity investments from its logic and foundry customers, which produce integrated circuits for smartphones, computers, and data centers.

Strong Quarterly Performance Underpins Outlook

The optimistic forecasts are supported by a strong third-quarter financial performance that beat analyst expectations. The company, which supplies chip makers with wafer processing equipment for thin film deposition, also projected fourth-quarter revenue above consensus estimates.

Key third-quarter results and Q4 guidance include:

  • Q3 Sales: €1.16 billion, up 44% year-over-year at constant currencies and above the Visible Alpha analyst forecast of €1.10 billion.
  • Q3 Net Profit: €308.1 million, compared to an analyst forecast of €299.2 million.
  • Q4 Sales Forecast: Approximately €1.23 billion, against a Visible Alpha forecast of €1.19 billion.

This marks the second upward revision to the company's long-term guidance in three months. In July, ASMI raised its 2027 target to exceed the top end of a previous range of €3.7 billion to €4.6 billion.
