Background

Argentinian power company YPF Electric Energy filed for an initial public offering in the United States on Monday, disclosing a significant increase in revenue and profit. The move signals growing confidence in Argentina's energy sector following recent market-oriented reforms.

Strong Financial Performance

In its filing with U.S. regulators, the Buenos Aires-based company reported strong year-over-year growth for the first quarter ended March 31. Key financial highlights include:

  • Revenue: $217.2 million, a 45.8% increase from $149 million in the same period a year earlier.
  • Net Profit: $66.5 million, up from $43.4 million in the prior-year quarter.

YPF Electric Energy operates a portfolio of 17 thermal and renewable power plants with a total installed capacity of 3,764 megawatts (MW). The company noted that renewable sources, including wind and solar farms, accounted for 19% of the electricity it supplied in the year ended March 31.

Market Context and Offering Details

The IPO comes as investor sentiment towards Argentina improves, driven by policy changes under President Javier Milei. YPF Electric Energy is the second Argentinian power firm to file for a U.S. listing this month, following Genneia. Josef Schuster, CEO of IPOX, told Reuters that he believes there will be "significant interest" and that the "IPO window for large foreign companies to list in the U.S. is wide open."

The offering will consist of American Depositary Shares (ADS) sold by an existing stakeholder, BNR Power Investments, which is owned by GE Vernova and China’s Silk Road Fund. As a secondary offering, YPF Electric Energy will not receive any of the proceeds. The company plans to list on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol "YLUZ", with Goldman Sachs, BofA Securities, and Citigroup acting as global coordinators.
