Apple Briefly Surpasses $5 Trillion Market Cap, Joining Nvidia in Elite Club

Summary
The iPhone maker's market value topped the $5 trillion mark during intraday trading on Tuesday, driven by strong sales and a capital-light approach to artificial intelligence.
Apple Inc. (AAPL) briefly saw its market capitalization exceed $5 trillion during Tuesday's trading session, becoming only the second publicly traded company to reach the historic valuation, following chipmaker Nvidia (NVDA).
Milestone in Focus
The tech giant's shares hit a session high of $342.89, which pushed its total market value to approximately $5.036 trillion, according to a report from Investing.com. The stock later retraced some of its gains, and it would need to close above $340.43 to officially end a trading day above the $5 trillion threshold.
The achievement comes less than a year after Apple first surpassed the $4 trillion mark in October 2025. The stock has gained approximately 24% year-to-date and has risen nearly 60% over the past 12 months.
AdA Disciplined Approach to AI
Analysts attribute the sustained rally to consistently strong iPhone sales and a disciplined approach to capital expenditure. A key factor differentiating Apple from its peers has been its decision to largely sidestep the costly artificial intelligence infrastructure race that has concerned investors at other Big Tech firms.
Instead of building out massive, cash-intensive data centers for proprietary AI models, Apple has opted to partner with companies like Google to power new AI-driven services. This strategy has allowed it to avoid heavy infrastructure costs, a move that has been received positively by investors weighing the returns on significant AI investments across the sector. Investors will be closely watching the company's upcoming third-quarter earnings report, scheduled for release after the market closes on Thursday, July 30.
