Akzo Nobel Stock Gains After Q2 Earnings Beat and Upgraded Profit Forecast

Shares in Akzo Nobel gained on Tuesday after the Dutch paints and coatings manufacturer reported second-quarter earnings that topped analyst estimates and raised its full-year profit forecast, signaling confidence despite a challenging market.
Earnings Beat and Guidance Upgrade
Akzo Nobel announced a 5% increase in second-quarter adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) to €398 million ($428 million), slightly ahead of the consensus forecast of €392 million, according to company-provided figures. Revenue for the three months ending June 30 was €2.59 billion, which was broadly in line with expectations after accounting for the divestment of its liquid coatings businesses in India.
Reflecting the solid performance, the company upgraded its full-year outlook. Management now targets an adjusted EBITDA of at least €1.47 billion for the full year, a significant increase from the market's prior estimate of €1.42 billion.
Management Commentary and M&A
AdChief Executive Officer Greg Poux-Guillaume attributed the results to "sustained pricing discipline and cost efficiency." The company also confirmed it remains on track to complete its planned merger with Axalta Coating Systems by late 2026 or early 2027. A shareholder vote on the transaction is scheduled for August 5.
Market Reaction
The positive results and upgraded guidance pushed Akzo Nobel's stock up by 1.3% in Tuesday trading, reaching an intraday high of €59 per share. The advance was a standout performance driven by company-specific news, as the pan-European STOXX 600 index slipped 0.4% and Amsterdam's AEX index was also under pressure.
Analysts at Jefferies, who maintain a Hold rating and a €55 price target on the stock, noted that both the Q2 results and the outlook for Q3 EBITDA came in approximately 4% ahead of consensus, calling it a "modest but constructive read-through" for investors.
