Background

Airbus reported a 9% increase in aircraft deliveries for the first eight months of 2026, keeping the European planemaker broadly on course to meet its annual production target despite a recent disruption to its A330 wide-body program.

Delivery Performance to August

According to a monthly bulletin released Monday, the company delivered a total of 475 jets from January through August, up from 434 during the same period last year. The tally for August alone was 57 aircraft.

These figures position Airbus to pursue its full-year target of 870 deliveries, which would represent a 10% increase over the 793 jets delivered in the prior year. For investors, aircraft delivery figures are a key performance metric as planemakers generate the bulk of their revenue when customers formally receive an aircraft.

A330 Production Snag and Recovery

The latest data confirmed the resumption of A330 handovers, with one wide-body jet delivered in August. Deliveries for this model had been suspended in June and July following the discovery of a lost tool in an aircraft's tail section, according to reports.

The temporary halt has significantly impacted the A330 program's performance. Key figures include:

  • Year-to-date A330 deliveries stand at just 11 aircraft, down 31% from the previous year.
  • In contrast, deliveries of the benchmark A320-family of narrow-body jets rose 11% over the same period.

New Orders Bolster Backlog

On the sales side, Airbus recorded 67 new aircraft orders in August, including a notable purchase of eight A350F freighters by an undisclosed customer. Year-to-date, the manufacturer has secured 1,091 net orders after accounting for cancellations.

A robust order book is a critical indicator of future revenue and production stability for aerospace manufacturers, providing visibility into demand for years to come.
