Acciona Shares Tumble After Report of Failed Renewable Unit Sale

Shares of Spanish infrastructure conglomerate Acciona and its renewable energy arm, Acciona Energia, both fell by approximately 4% on Wednesday following a report that the sale process for the energy unit has collapsed.
Bidders Reportedly Withdraw Offers
According to a report from Spanish publication *El Confidencial*, the three remaining finalists in the bidding process have withdrawn their binding offers for the renewable energy subsidiary. The report identified the potential buyers as equity funds Ardian, EQT, and Norges Bank.
The withdrawal was attributed to two primary factors: difficulties in securing financing for a large-scale acquisition and the high price demanded by the parent company, Acciona. Neither Acciona nor Acciona Energia were immediately available for comment on the report.
AdMarket Impact and Analyst View
The news erased investor hopes for a high-value transaction that could have unlocked significant value. The sell-off suggests the market had priced in a higher probability of a successful sale at a premium valuation.
In a note to clients, analysts at Sabadell stated the news would likely have a negative impact on the share price. The bank noted that the prospect of a full sale of Acciona Energia at a "significant premium" has now cooled, resetting market expectations.
