Sector Performance and Key Movers
The negative close reflected broader market sentiment, with falling stocks outnumbering advancing ones by 333 to 190, while 119 issues remained unchanged. The session's downturn was heavily influenced by a slump in the basic materials sector.
Leading the decliners was copper and silver producer KGHM Polska Miedz SA (WA:KGH), which saw its shares plummet 8.19%. Other notable losers among the index's components included X Trade Brokers Dom Maklerski SA (WA:XTB), which fell 4.89%, and Pepco Group Nv (WA:PCOP), down 3.51%.
Pockets of Strength
Despite the overall index decline, several large-cap stocks posted strong results. The energy sector was a bright spot, with PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna SA (WA:PGE) surging 4.64% to close at a 5-year high.
AdPoland's banking industry also showed resilience. Powszechna Kasa Oszczednosci Bank Polski SA (WA:PKO) gained 0.95% to reach an all-time high, while mBank SA (WA:MBK) added 0.98%.
