Warsaw's WIG30 Index Gains 0.51% on Strength in Tech and Banking

Summary
Poland's benchmark WIG30 index closed higher on Monday, driven by strong performance in the information technology and banking sectors, even as the broader market showed signs of weakness.
Poland's benchmark WIG30 index finished Monday's trading session in positive territory, gaining 0.51% to close higher. The advance was primarily led by strong performance in the Information Technology, Banking, and Media sectors, according to market data.
Sector Leaders and Laggards
The session's top performers on the blue-chip index provided a significant boost. Asseco Poland SA (WA:ACPP), a major IT firm, was the standout gainer, surging 5.31%. Other notable advancers included retailer Dino Polska SA (WA:DNP), which added 4.13%, and video game developer CD PROJEKT SA (WA:CDR), up 3.67%.
However, the gains were not universal, with significant declines in other key stocks. The worst performers were led by Zabka Group SA (WA:ZAB), which fell sharply by 9.57%. Energy giants also faced pressure, with Polski Koncern Naftowy ORLEN SA (WA:PKN) declining 3.21% and PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna SA (WA:PGE) dropping 2.19%.
AdBroader Market and Currencies
Despite the positive close for the main index, the broader market sentiment on the Warsaw Stock Exchange was mixed. Declining stocks outnumbered advancing ones by a narrow margin of 253 to 245, with 129 issues ending the day unchanged. This suggests a lack of broad-based conviction behind the day's rally.
In the currency markets, the Polish zloty weakened against its major counterparts. The EUR/PLN exchange rate rose 0.26% to 4.32, while the USD/PLN pair gained 0.20% to 3.80. Meanwhile, global commodity markets saw a sharp sell-off in oil, with WTI Crude futures tumbling 6.74%.
