Warren Buffett Halts Donations to Gates Foundation, Redirects $6 Billion to Family Charities

Summary
The Berkshire Hathaway chairman has stopped his long-standing contributions to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, instead pledging $6 billion in stock to his family's foundations following revelations about Bill Gates's ties to Jeffrey Epstein.
Warren Buffett has confirmed he will no longer donate to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, redirecting his latest multi-billion-dollar philanthropic contribution to foundations run by his own family. The move marks a significant shift in the Berkshire Hathaway chairman's giving strategy, which for nearly two decades has been closely tied to the Gates Foundation.
A New Philanthropic Direction
In a statement on Tuesday, Buffett announced a donation of approximately $6 billion of Berkshire Hathaway stock, which comprises 12 million Class B shares, to four foundations overseen by his children, Susie, Howard, and Peter. He further stated his intention to donate his remaining Berkshire shares to these four family foundations by December 31, 2034.
Notably, the announcement made no mention of the Gates Foundation. This is a major departure from a philanthropic pledge Buffett made in 2006. Since then, the Gates Foundation has received more than $47 billion in Berkshire stock from the famed investor, including a donation of over $4.5 billion just last year.
AdContext of the Decision
The change in Buffett's philanthropic plans follows recent revelations regarding the association between Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The timing of the decision suggests a direct link to these disclosures, as reported by Reuters.
In testimony before Congress in June, Bill Gates stated that he "did not fully understand the extent" of Epstein’s crimes when they associated to raise money for philanthropic causes. Gates also testified that he never witnessed any criminal conduct from Epstein during their interactions.
