Valmet Shares Soar on Q2 Earnings Beat and Strategic Review of Company Split

Shares of Finnish technology group Valmet (HEL:VALMT) surged nearly 20% on Friday after the company posted second-quarter earnings that surpassed analyst expectations and announced a strategic review to potentially split the company into two separate publicly listed entities.
Strong Q2 Performance Beats Expectations
For the April-to-June period, Valmet reported a 6% year-over-year increase in net sales to €1.32 billion, exceeding the average analyst estimate of €1.24 billion compiled by Vara Research. The company stated the growth was supported by higher sales and cost savings from an operational model renewal.
Comparable earnings before interest, taxes, and amortization (EBITA) also rose 6% to €152 million, beating the consensus forecast of €140 million. The comparable EBITA margin held steady at 11.5%, slightly ahead of the 11.3% market expectation. While orders received declined 10% to €1.37 billion, the figure still came in above the consensus of €1.28 billion.
Strategic Review Explores Company Split
AdIn a significant development, Valmet's board announced it has initiated a strategic review to evaluate separating its Biomaterial Solutions and Services and Process Performance Solutions segments. The plan would explore creating two independent companies, both listed on the Nasdaq Helsinki exchange, to potentially unlock greater shareholder value.
"The board will only proceed with a separation if we conclude after detailed analysis that separation is clearly in the best interests of our shareholders," said Chair Pekka Vauramo in a statement. Valmet cautioned that the review may not result in any transaction and committed to providing an update no later than its full-year 2026 results.
Market Reaction
Investors reacted positively to the dual announcements, sending Valmet's stock up 19.96% to €26.44 in Friday trading. The rally allowed the shares to recoup most of their losses suffered since late February. The stock reached an intraday high of €28.42, though it remains below its 52-week high of €32.15.
