Background

U.S. equity funds attracted their largest weekly capital injection in three weeks, driven by investor optimism ahead of the technology sector's second-quarter earnings season. For the week ending July 8, investors allocated a net $24.97 billion to U.S. stock funds, the most significant weekly purchase since June 17, according to LSEG Lipper data.

Technology Sector Leads the Charge

The technology sector was the primary beneficiary of the renewed investor confidence, with tech-focused funds seeing net inflows of $9.71 billion, their largest weekly addition since June 16. This demand is underpinned by robust earnings forecasts and easing concerns over potential Federal Reserve rate hikes.

Analysts project an average year-on-year earnings growth of 40.8% for U.S. large- and mid-cap technology companies, LSEG data showed. Strong demand for artificial intelligence products has also prompted analysts to revise their average 12-month earnings estimates for the sector upward by 4.2% over the past month.

Broader Market Flows

Beyond technology, other sectors also saw positive inflows, though on a smaller scale. Financials funds attracted $1.04 billion, while consumer staples funds added $683 million.
