Background

United Kingdom stocks finished the week on a high note, with the benchmark UK 100 index closing up 0.93% on Friday to reach its highest level in three months. The gains were driven by strength in key growth sectors, even as commodity prices showed significant weakness.

At the close of trading in London, advancing stocks on the London Stock Exchange outnumbered decliners by a margin of 1010 to 648, with 597 equities ending the session unchanged, according to data from Investing.com. The broad-based rally indicated positive investor sentiment heading into the weekend.
