TSMC Expected to Post Record Q2 Profit on Surging AI Chip Demand

Summary
The world's largest contract chipmaker is forecast to report a 59% jump in second-quarter net profit, driven by strong demand for its advanced 3nm, 2nm, and CoWoS packaging technologies used in AI infrastructure.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) is poised to report a record-breaking net profit for the second quarter, fueled by relentless global demand for the advanced chips that power artificial intelligence. Analysts forecast a 59% surge in net income, which would mark the company's fifth consecutive quarter of record earnings.
Record Earnings in Focus
An LSEG SmartEstimate, which aggregates forecasts from 18 analysts, projects TSMC's net profit for the April-June period will reach T$632.6 billion ($19.65 billion). A result above T$572.5 billion would not only set a new quarterly high but also represent the company's tenth straight quarter of profit growth.
This forecast follows the company's announcement on Monday of a 36% year-over-year increase in second-quarter revenue, which also set a record and surpassed market expectations.
AI Boom Drives Advanced Technology
The chipmaker's exceptional performance is directly linked to the booming AI sector. Demand remains robust for TSMC's most advanced process technologies, including its 3-nanometer and 2-nanometer nodes, which are critical for high-performance AI processors.
AdFurthermore, the company's advanced packaging technology, known as CoWoS (Chip on Wafer on Substrate), is in high demand. This technology is essential for integrating complex chips used by major clients like Nvidia and Apple for AI and high-performance computing applications.
Market Awaits Updated Guidance
With strong results widely anticipated, investors will now turn their attention to the company's forward-looking guidance during its earnings call on Thursday. Key points of interest will be any upward revision to TSMC's full-year revenue forecast and potential increases to its capital spending plans, a key indicator of management's confidence in sustained AI demand.
In its last update, the company guided for 2026 capital expenditure to be at the high end of its $52 billion to $56 billion range. The positive outlook has propelled TSMC's Taipei-listed shares up 57.4% this year, pushing its market capitalization to approximately $1.95 trillion.
