Tel Aviv's TA 35 Index Slips 0.43% as Banking and Energy Stocks Decline

Summary
Israel's benchmark TA 35 index closed lower on Wednesday, weighed down by losses in the banking, oil & gas, and real estate sectors, even as a majority of stocks on the exchange advanced.
Israel's benchmark TA 35 index closed lower on Wednesday, shedding 0.43% as weakness in key heavyweight sectors offset gains elsewhere on the exchange. The decline was primarily driven by losses in banking, oil & gas, and real estate stocks, according to closing data from the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange.
Index Weighed Down by Key Sectors
The broad-based TA 35 index fell despite a positive market breadth, where advancing stocks outnumbered declining ones 257 to 193, with 110 issues ending unchanged. This dynamic suggests that the day's losses were concentrated in larger-capitalization companies that have a greater weighting in the index.
The most significant decliners among the index's components included:
- Kenon Holdings Ltd (TASE:KEN), which fell 6.10%.
- Elbit Systems Ltd (TASE:ESLT), declining by 4.10%.
- OPC Energy Ltd (TASE:OPCE), which dropped 3.90%.
Bright Spots in Tech and Pharma
AdIn contrast to the overall market trend, several companies posted strong gains. Technology firm Camtek Ltd (TASE:CAMT) was the top performer on the index, surging 4.84%.
It was followed by Next Vision Stabilized Systems (TASE:NXSN), which added 3.49%. Notably, shares of Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd (TASE:TEVA) rose 2.84%, reaching a new 5-year high.
Broader Market Context
In the broader financial markets, energy prices saw a significant uptick during the session. WTI Crude oil for November delivery was up 2.27% to $91.41 a barrel, while Brent oil for December delivery rose 2.86% to $98.91 a barrel.
In foreign exchange, the Israeli shekel weakened against major currencies. The USD/ILS pair rose 0.26% to 3.07, and the EUR/ILS pair gained 0.36% to 3.49.
