Background

Artificial intelligence voice startup ElevenLabs announced Wednesday it has completed a $300 million employee tender offer, establishing a new valuation of $22 billion. The figure is double the $11 billion valuation the company secured during its Series D funding round in February, according to a Reuters report.

Details of the Transaction

The tender offer was led by prominent investment firms Wellington and T. Rowe Price. It also saw participation from new investors EQT and Goldman Sachs, alongside existing backers such as Andreessen Horowitz and Lightspeed.

Unlike a traditional fundraising round where a company issues new equity, a tender offer allows employees and early shareholders to sell a portion of their existing stock. This provides liquidity for stakeholders without diluting ownership or raising new capital for the company's balance sheet.

ElevenLabs' soaring valuation reflects the rapid enterprise adoption of its AI voice agents. The company reported its agents now handle over 15 million conversations each week, a threefold increase from February. These agents are used for tasks like processing refunds, renewing insurance policies, and booking appointments.

"We’re already seeing rapid adoption of expressive voice agents by enterprises and governments, who are deploying them in service of consumers and citizens," said co-founder and CEO Mati Staniszewski in a statement. Founded in 2022, the London-based company develops text-to-speech models that can operate in more than 90 languages.

Market Context

The deal underscores a broader investment trend favoring developers of AI agents, which businesses are increasingly using to automate customer service and routine back-office operations. The sector's growth has attracted major technology companies, including Meta Platforms, which is expanding its own personal AI agent, Muse, for business applications.
