Swedish Stocks Edge Higher as Industrial and Energy Gains Offset Broader Declines

Summary
The OMX Stockholm 30 index closed up 0.39% on Tuesday, led by gains in industrial and energy stocks like Sandvik, even as more stocks fell than rose on the broader exchange.
Swedish stocks closed in positive territory on Tuesday, with the benchmark OMX Stockholm 30 index gaining 0.39%, buoyed by strength in the industrial and energy sectors. The advance came despite a larger number of declining stocks on the broader exchange, indicating a concentrated rally in blue-chip names.
Industrial and Energy Stocks Lead Gains
The Stockholm market's rise was primarily driven by positive performance in the Oil & Gas, Industrials, and Technology sectors, according to data from Investing.com. Among the index's top performers was engineering group Sandvik AB (ST:SAND), which surged 3.40%.
Other notable gainers included:
- Mining equipment manufacturer Epiroc AB Class A (ST:EPIRa), which climbed 2.92%.
- Bearing and seal manufacturer AB SKF B (ST:SKFb), which added 2.20%.
Decliners and Market Breadth
AdOn the other side of the ledger, metals and mining company Boliden AB (ST:BOL) was the session's biggest laggard, falling 5.73%. Online gaming firm Evolution AB (ST:EVOG) and industrial group Lifco publ AB (ST:LIFCOb) also faced selling pressure, declining 3.47% and 2.87%, respectively.
The mixed performance was reflected in the market's overall breadth. On the Stockholm Stock Exchange, 370 stocks fell while 352 advanced, and 69 remained unchanged, suggesting that the headline index's gain was not widely distributed across the market.
Commodity and Currency Markets
The gains in energy-related stocks coincided with a rally in oil prices. Crude oil futures for September delivery rose 2.47% to $84.52 a barrel, while Brent oil increased 2.45% to $91.41 a barrel. Gold futures also saw gains, rising 1.57%.
In currency markets, the Swedish krona weakened slightly against major currencies. The EUR/SEK pair was up 0.14% to 11.06, and the USD/SEK pair rose 0.20% to 9.69, while the U.S. Dollar Index Futures edged up 0.17%.
