Background

The Sui Foundation has announced its flagship annual conference, Sui Basecamp 2026, will take place in Singapore with a central theme of the "agentic economy." The event will feature a live, audited attempt to set a new network record for transactions per second (TPS).

Conference to Focus on Machine-to-Machine Economy

Scheduled for October 7-8 at Marina Bay Sands, the conference will explore the infrastructure required for an economy where software agents transact autonomously. This concept, termed the "agentic economy," requires high-speed settlement, privacy, and security for machine-to-machine payments and interactions.

"Economic activity is shifting from people clicking checkout buttons to agents transacting on their behalf, continuously and at machine speed," said Adeniyi Abiodun, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer of Mysten Labs, the original contributor to Sui. The speaker lineup includes figures from finance, AI, and regulation, such as Real Vision CEO Raoul Pal, former U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) commissioner Brian Quintenez, and Alex Mourfarek of Google DeepMind.

Live Network Stress Test Planned

A key highlight will be a public, real-time speed test on the main stage on October 7. Mysten Labs Co-Founder and Chief Cryptographer Kostas Chalkias will lead an effort to surpass Sui's standing record of 6,086,766 TPS, reportedly set on July 4th of this year.

The test aims to simulate the high-transaction volume expected in an agentic economy, with automated agents processing transactions across gaming, payments, and other applications. To ensure the integrity of the results, web3 security firm CertiK will act as an independent auditor, with all transactions logged for post-test verification.

Context and Market Implications

The event underscores the intense competition among Layer 1 blockchains to demonstrate superior technical performance and scalability. For developers and institutional investors, metrics like TPS are crucial indicators of a network's ability to support enterprise-level applications and high-frequency financial activity.

Sui, developed by a team that originated from Meta's Diem stablecoin project, markets its architecture as being purpose-built for scalable on-chain finance. The conference and its live performance test serve as a strategic effort to validate these claims and attract builders to its ecosystem.
