Background

StandardAero Inc. (NYSE:SARO) shares rose 4.8% in premarket trading on Thursday after the company announced it was selected by GE Aerospace to build, maintain, and overhaul engines for the United Kingdom Ministry of Defence’s New Medium Helicopter (NMH) fleet.

Contract Details

The agreement covers the CT7-2E1 engines that will power the UK's incoming fleet of 23 AW149 helicopters. The helicopters are scheduled for delivery between 2030 and 2033.

According to the announcement, the program includes:

  • 46 engines plus spares and spare parts.
  • Long-term support services.
  • Potential for future engine exports from the UK.

All engine build, maintenance, and overhaul work for the UK fleet and any future exports will be handled at StandardAero’s facility in Gosport, UK. The site has a long history of servicing the T700 and CT7 series of turboshaft engines, dating back to 1986.

Strategic Importance and Context

The contract extends StandardAero's multi-decade partnership with GE Aerospace and deepens its 85-year relationship with the UK Ministry of Defence. The Gosport facility already conducts airframe maintenance on the Royal Air Force’s Chinook fleet and supports the T700 engines for the British Army’s Apache AH-64E fleet.

"This program reflects a strong partnership with GE Aerospace, built on decades of trusted performance," said Marc Drobny, President of Military, Helicopter and Energy at StandardAero. "We are honored that GE Aerospace continues to rely on our team to deliver the reliability and readiness our customers expect."

The program is expected to sustain skilled jobs at the Gosport site, which has supported the UK's military since 1940. For investors, the deal represents a long-term, stable revenue stream and reinforces StandardAero's key position in the military maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) market.
