Spain's IBEX 35 Hits One-Month Low Amid Sector Divergence

Spain's benchmark IBEX 35 index edged lower in Tuesday's trading session, closing down 0.05% to reach a new one-month low. The slight decline was driven by weakness in several key sectors, even as advancing stocks outnumbered decliners on the Madrid Stock Exchange.
Mixed Sector Performance
Pressure on the index came primarily from losses in the Consumer Goods, Financial Services & Real Estate, and Telecommunications & IT sectors. Despite the headline index falling, market breadth was positive, with 117 stocks rising compared to 74 that declined, while 16 remained unchanged. This indicates that the negative performance was concentrated in larger-cap index constituents.
Among the session's worst performers were:
- SOLARIA ENERGIA Y MEDIO AMBIENTE (BME:SLRS): Fell 2.28% to close at 16.49.
- Puig Brands SA (BME:PUIGb): Declined 2.17% to end at 17.11.
- Industria de Diseno Textil SA (BME:ITX): Was down 2.12%, closing at 52.58.
Energy Stocks Rally on Oil Surge
AdA significant bright spot was the energy sector, which rallied in line with a sharp increase in global oil prices. Crude oil for October delivery rose 3.74% to $105.18 a barrel, while the November Brent contract gained 2.53% to trade at $108.35 a barrel.
This commodity strength lifted shares of energy companies. Oil and gas firm Repsol (BME:REP) was a standout performer, adding 3.09% to end the session at 29.38, a new all-time high. Other top gainers included Corporacion Acciona Energias Renovables SA (BME:ANE), which surged 4.48%, and its parent company Acciona (BME:ANA), which rose 2.85%.
Broader Market Indicators
In other markets, Gold Futures for December delivery saw a modest decline, falling 0.48% to $4,331.01 a troy ounce. Major currency pairs were relatively stable, with the EUR/USD and EUR/GBP pairs showing minimal changes. The US Dollar Index Futures, which measures the greenback against a basket of currencies, was up 0.26% at 99.37.
