South Korean Mills Purchase 100,000 Metric Tons of US and Canadian Wheat

Summary
A consortium of South Korean flour mills has secured approximately 100,000 metric tons of milling wheat from the United States and Canada via an international tender for shipment in early 2027.
A group of South Korean flour mills purchased approximately 100,000 metric tons of milling wheat in an international tender on Wednesday, with the volume split evenly between suppliers in the United States and Canada, according to trade sources cited by Reuters.
US Wheat Purchase Details
The tender secured 50,000 metric tons of US wheat for shipment between January 1 and January 31, 2027. Traders reported that the seller for this portion of the deal was CJ International. All prices were quoted on a Free on Board (FOB) basis, which excludes the cost of shipping and insurance.
The US purchase included several specific classes of wheat:
- 23,000 tons of Soft White (SW) wheat with 9.5% to 11% protein, priced at $273.78 per ton.
- 14,385 tons of Hard Red Winter (HRW) wheat with a minimum of 11.5% protein, priced at $335.98 per ton.
- 12,615 tons of Northern Spring/Dark Northern Spring (NS/DNS) wheat with a minimum of 14% protein, priced at $335.52 per ton.
AdCanadian Supply and Market Context
The mills also bought 50,000 metric tons of Canadian wheat, scheduled for shipment between January 15 and February 15, 2027. The price for the Canadian grain was reportedly in the low $330s per ton, also on an FOB basis.
South Korea is a significant global importer of wheat, and its regular tenders are closely watched by the market as a barometer for Asian demand for high-quality milling grains. These transactions provide key pricing benchmarks for specific wheat varieties from North American producers.
