Snap Launches In-App Event Planning Tools to Drive User Engagement

Snap Inc. (NYSE:SNAP) on Thursday launched a new suite of in-app event planning tools called Snapchat Plans, aiming to facilitate the transition from online conversations to real-world social gatherings. The new feature allows users to organize events, send invitations, and manage responses entirely within the Snapchat application.
Feature Details
According to a company blog post, the new tools are designed to streamline the process of organizing everything from parties to study sessions. Key functionalities of Snapchat Plans include:
- The ability to create an event with a title, date, and time.
- Invitations for up to 200 friends, delivered via one-on-one chats.
- A dedicated RSVP system where guests can respond with “Going,” “Maybe,” or “Can’t Go.”
- Personalized event pages featuring dynamic Bitmoji-powered cover art.
Snapchat has also integrated new sections into the user interface to manage these events. A “My Plans” tab on user profiles aggregates all current, upcoming, and past events, while an “Our Plans” section within Friendship Profiles shows events shared with a specific friend.
AdStrategic Rationale
The introduction of Snapchat Plans is a strategic move to formalize and capture an existing user behavior. The company noted that its own data indicates about a third of its young users in the U.S. already use group chats and direct messages to make plans.
By building a dedicated toolset, Snap aims to increase user engagement and keep the entire social planning process within its ecosystem. This feature allows hosts to view attendee lists and update event details, while guests can see the full guest list and receive automated reminders, centralizing communications that might otherwise move to other platforms.
