Slovenia Approves Tesla's FSD System Ahead of Potential EU-Wide Vote

Slovenia has approved Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised system for use on its roads, the automaker announced Monday. The decision makes Slovenia the sixth European country to clear the advanced driver-assistance technology ahead of a potential vote on its use across the European Union.
National Approval Gained
Tesla announced the regulatory green light in a post on the social media platform X. "FSD Supervised now approved in Slovenia. Rollout will begin soon," the company stated in the post, which was subsequently shared by CEO Elon Musk.
The announcement was also reposted by Slovenia's Energy and Infrastructure Minister, Jernej Vrtovec, who added the comment "Developing Slovenia." This approval follows a similar decision by the Netherlands in early April, which was the first EU member state to provisionally approve the software.
Path to EU-Wide Clearance
The national-level approvals are part of Tesla's strategy to gain wider acceptance for its technology across the 27-member bloc. The company has indicated that a vote on EU-wide approval could take place as soon as October 6, according to a Reuters report citing a Tesla statement from last week.
AdIn addition to Slovenia and the Netherlands, four other European countries have now approved the system. Other nations are also evaluating the technology; Finland and Greece have reportedly said they are considering approvals. France, which had previously raised safety concerns, began testing two FSD-equipped cars last week following what its transport minister called a "constructive exchange" with Musk.
What This Means for Tesla
The successful rollout of FSD is a critical component of Tesla's long-term growth strategy and a key focus for investors. Regulatory hurdles, particularly in major international markets like Europe, represent a significant factor in the system's commercialization.
It is important to note that the system is designated as "Supervised," meaning it can control the vehicle but legally requires the driver to remain fully attentive and prepared to intervene. Each national approval provides Tesla with more operational data and builds momentum toward its goal of a unified regulatory framework in the EU.
