Silver Prices Surge to One-Month High on Geopolitical Optimism, Shifting Fed Bets

Silver prices surged nearly 5.0% during Tuesday's trading session, reaching their highest level in a month as a combination of geopolitical developments and shifting monetary policy expectations boosted the precious metal. The spot price for silver climbed to $62.46 per troy ounce, marking a significant breakout.
Geopolitical Hopes Weaken U.S. Dollar
A key catalyst for the rally was optimism surrounding a potential diplomatic breakthrough in the Middle East. According to reports, negotiations involving Iran and Oman to reopen the Strait of Hormuz have advanced, with President Trump stating a deal could be reached as soon as Wednesday.
This news eased geopolitical tensions and weighed on the U.S. dollar, which serves as a traditional safe-haven asset. A weaker dollar provides a tailwind for commodities priced in the currency, like silver, by making them more affordable for holders of other currencies.
Fed Rate Hike Expectations Recede
AdThe rally gained further support from changing views on the Federal Reserve's policy path. Softer U.S. economic data and lower oil prices have led investors to pare back expectations for an aggressive series of rate hikes, a sentiment reflected in lower U.S. Treasury yields.
The implied probability of a Fed rate hike in September has fallen to 57%, according to market data. Lower interest rates reduce the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets like silver, increasing their appeal. Investors are now awaiting the U.S. July jobs report on Friday for further signals on the economy's direction.
Technical Breakout Amplifies Gains
Tuesday's price action also represented a significant technical breakout. The move pushed silver past the $60.00 psychological hurdle and above its 200-period Simple Moving Average on the 4-hour chart, triggering further momentum-driven buying. The broader risk-on mood was also evident in U.S. equity markets, with the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average posting gains.
