ServiceTitan Shares Plunge 30% on Weak Guidance and Slowing Growth

ServiceTitan (TTAN) shares fell nearly 30% in a single session after the company's latest earnings report revealed slowing growth and a weaker-than-expected outlook, resetting investor expectations. The stock closed at $57.12 on September 9, a drop of 29.98%, pushing it near its 52-week low of $54.17.
Disappointing Outlook Drives Sell-Off
The sharp decline was primarily driven by the company's forward guidance. For its fiscal third quarter, ServiceTitan projected revenue between $285 million and $287 million, a figure that falls below the $292.8 million generated in the second quarter. For a high-growth software company, a sequential revenue decline is a significant red flag for investors.
This weak forecast overshadowed mixed second-quarter results. While Q2 revenue beat the consensus estimate of $285.9 million, adjusted earnings per share came in at -$0.26, a slightly wider loss than the anticipated -$0.25. The company also reported other concerning trends:
- Revenue growth slowed to 21%, down from approximately 24.6% in the prior period.
- Gross transaction value (GTV) growth decelerated to 17%.
- The company expects a $4 million to $5 million near-term revenue headwind from its transition to a new AI product.
- ServiceTitan also announced its Chief Revenue Officer, Ross Biestman, is stepping back, adding to leadership uncertainty.
AdMarket Reaction and Context
The market's severe reaction reflects a fundamental repricing of the company's growth prospects. Investors typically award high valuation multiples to software firms with consistent, high-speed growth. When that growth falters or guidance points to a slowdown, valuations are quickly adjusted downward.
Despite the negative sentiment, ServiceTitan highlighted several positive underlying business metrics. The company's net dollar retention rate remains strong at over 110%, indicating it continues to successfully upsell existing customers. Furthermore, adoption of its Max AI product doubled quarter-over-quarter to more than 700 customers, and the company maintains a healthy balance sheet with more cash than debt.
