ServiceNow Stock Slides on Analyst Concerns and Pre-Earnings Jitters

ServiceNow (NYSE: NOW) shares fell 3.8% in morning trading as investors de-risked their positions ahead of the company's second-quarter 2026 earnings release, scheduled for after the market close. The sell-off is being driven by a combination of recent bearish analyst actions, a pattern of post-earnings declines, and a cautious tone across the broader technology sector.
Analyst Concerns Weigh on Shares
Recent commentary from Wall Street analysts has added direct pressure on the stock. KeyBanc reiterated its Underweight rating, while CLSA initiated coverage with an Underperform rating, setting price targets of $85 and $72, respectively.
KeyBanc analysts raised concerns that customers may have pulled forward contract renewals to lock in pricing before ServiceNow's new AI-native packaging tiers took effect on July 1. This dynamic could artificially boost near-term bookings while potentially masking softer underlying demand. Separately, CLSA argued that the stock's current valuation already prices in an optimistic outcome for its AI platform, leaving little room for upside.
Adding to the bearish sentiment, 38 analysts have lowered their earnings per share (EPS) estimates for ServiceNow over the past 90 days, with none raising their forecasts, according to Investing.com data.
AdA History of Post-Earnings Volatility
Investor anxiety is heightened by the stock's recent performance following earnings announcements. ServiceNow shares dropped sharply after each of its last two quarterly reports, creating a precedent for volatility that is encouraging some investors to sell ahead of the event.
Options markets are signaling a high degree of uncertainty, with pricing that implies a potential share price move of approximately 11% in either direction following the release. This pre-earnings caution is unfolding amid a weak backdrop for technology stocks, with the Nasdaq Composite down 0.4% as investors await a heavy slate of earnings from major tech companies.
