Samsung Shows Highest Fair Value Upside Among Memory Chip Peers, Analysis Finds

An analysis by Investing.com suggests Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (005930) offers the most significant potential upside among four leading memory chip manufacturers. Based on financial models as of Sept. 11, 2026, Samsung's stock has a calculated fair value upside of 50.1%.
Samsung Leads on Valuation
Samsung's top ranking is attributed to its comparatively restrained valuation combined with strong fundamentals. This provides what the analysis terms a significant "margin of safety" for investors.
Key metrics supporting this outlook include:
- A trailing price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 11.0x
- Revenue growth of 57.3% as of June 30, 2026
- A free cash flow (FCF) yield of 8.8%
The company's diversified business, which extends beyond memory chips into broader consumer electronics, is also noted as a factor that can reduce its dependence on the highly cyclical memory market.
Growth vs. Price for Competitors
AdThe analysis presents a trade-off between growth and valuation for Samsung's peers. Japan's Kioxia Holdings (KXIAY) follows with a modeled upside of 35.5%, supported by impressive revenue growth of 132.1%. However, its higher trailing P/E of 21.2x suggests the market has already priced in a significant growth premium.
SK hynix Inc. (000660) and Micron Technology, Inc. (MU) show the lowest modeled upsides at 24.8% and 18.1%, respectively. While SK hynix boasts a low P/E of 8.0x and revenue growth of 145.0%, its reported return on equity (ROE) was an exceptionally high 353.8%, which the analysis cautions is likely a cyclical peak. Micron reported the strongest revenue growth of the group at 167.0%, but its P/E of 21.9x leaves the least valuation cushion, indicating its recovery is already largely recognized by the market.
Navigating a Cyclical Sector
The analysis categorizes the investment profiles of the four companies based on their risk and reward characteristics. Samsung is positioned as the choice for the highest fair value upside, while Kioxia represents a more aggressive play on cyclical recovery. SK hynix offers a low headline valuation with strong earnings momentum, and Micron is noted for its operational strength but with the least valuation upside.
It is crucial to note that fair value is a model-based estimate and not a guarantee of future performance. The memory chip sector remains highly cyclical, and factors such as inventory levels, pricing power, AI-driven server demand, and capital expenditures can rapidly alter the outlook for these companies.
