Rum Group Stock Surges After Report Names Anthropic in $13.7 Billion Compute Deal

Summary
Shares of Rum Group (formerly Rumble) jumped after a report identified AI firm Anthropic as the previously unnamed customer in a massive $13.7 billion, six-year cloud computing contract.
Shares of Rum Group (NASDAQ: RUM), formerly known as Rumble Inc., surged more than 9% in premarket trading Monday after a report identified AI developer Anthropic as the counterparty in a previously disclosed $13.7 billion cloud computing agreement.
The Reported Agreement
*The Information* reported that Anthropic is the unnamed customer in a six-year deal to lease computing capacity, citing a person familiar with the matter. The agreement is one of several large-scale cloud contracts Anthropic has signed over the past year to meet surging demand for its AI models, including Claude Code and Cowork.
Rum Group had announced the major contract in an August securities filing but did not name the client at the time. The deal involves leasing capacity at a data center currently under construction in Maysville, Georgia.
Financing and Infrastructure Hurdles
The Georgia data center project is a significant undertaking, with access to 120 megawatts of power and a potential construction and equipment cost of over $10 billion, according to the report. While the facility was previously slated to be operational late this year, the current timeline is reportedly unclear.
AdIn its August filing, Rum Group acknowledged that it lacked the necessary financing for the data center's construction and the purchase of server chips (GPUs). The company stated it expected to fund a substantial portion of the project through new debt or equity financing. The person familiar with the situation confirmed that Rum Group is planning to borrow money to finance the facility.
Context and Incentives
The company rebranded from Rumble to Rum Group after acquiring German neocloud provider Northern Data in June for approximately $767 million. As part of the arrangement with Anthropic, the AI firm has received an option to purchase up to 51 million shares of Rum Group stock for one cent per share.
The ability for Anthropic to exercise these options is contingent on its usage of Rum Group's services. Half of the options are tied to purchasing compute capacity at the Maysville facility, while the other half depends on securing additional capacity at a separate site under development by Rum Group.
