Roivant Shares Soar After Positive Mid-Stage Trial Results for Lung Disease Drug

Shares of Roivant Sciences (ROIV) jumped approximately 17% on Tuesday after the drug developer announced its experimental therapy, mosliciguat, met the primary endpoints in a mid-stage clinical trial.
Positive Trial Data
The study evaluated mosliciguat in patients with pulmonary hypertension associated with interstitial lung disease (PH-ILD), a serious condition characterized by lung scarring that damages blood vessels and strains the heart. Roivant reported that the drug demonstrated significant efficacy over a 16-week period in the 135-patient trial.
Key results announced by the company include:
- A 56.3% reduction in pressure and resistance in lung blood vessels compared with a placebo.
- Patients treated with mosliciguat walked an average of 35.2 meters farther in a six-minute walking test than those on placebo, meeting a key secondary endpoint.
Market Impact and Outlook
AdThe positive data prompted a strong investor response and optimistic analyst commentary. Following the announcement, J.P.Morgan analyst Brian Cheng reiterated the stock as a "top pick," stating the results suggest the drug's potential is likely greater than his firm's prior estimate of $1.5 billion in risk-adjusted peak sales for this specific indication.
Roivant's Chief Investment Officer, Mayukh Sukhatme, stated that mosliciguat's long half-life could lead to greater benefits with extended treatment. Sukhatme added that the company envisions the drug as both a standalone and combination therapy, offering "real relief" to a patient population with a short life expectancy.
Strategic Pipeline Development
This successful trial adds to Roivant's recent momentum as it works to expand its late-stage pipeline. The news follows last month's U.S. regulatory approval for Lisraya, another of the company's treatments designed for a skin and muscle disease.
