Roche Shares Rise as Reaffirmed Guidance Overshadows Currency Headwinds

Shares in Roche gained on Tuesday after the pharmaceutical company released first-half 2026 results that reassured investors by confirming its full-year guidance and revealing robust underlying growth, offsetting a headline sales decline caused by the strong Swiss franc.
Results Defy Currency Pressures
Roche reported group sales of CHF 30.36 billion for the first half of the year, a 2% decrease in Swiss franc terms, according to its pre-market release. However, the company emphasized that performance at constant exchange rates (CER) painted a healthier picture, with sales climbing 6%.
The Basel-based firm removed a key uncertainty for the market by reaffirming its full-year 2026 forecast. Roche continues to expect mid-single-digit sales growth at constant exchange rates and high-single-digit growth in core earnings per share.
Analyst Confidence Bolsters Stock
Positive reactions from the analyst community provided further support for the stock's advance. Following the report, UBS reiterated its Buy rating and CHF 376 price target on Roche, highlighting that second-quarter pharmaceutical sales came in 1% ahead of consensus expectations.
AdKey drivers of the beat, according to UBS, included stronger-than-expected sales from several major drugs:
- Hemlibra: Beat consensus estimates by 4%
- Tecentriq: Beat by 3%
- Perjeta: Beat by 11%
This performance helped to offset a miss from the eye drug Vabysmo, which came in 8% below forecasts. The broader analyst community had maintained a Buy consensus on the stock heading into the earnings release.
Company-Specific Strength
The gains in Roche's stock appeared entirely company-driven, standing in contrast to a weaker broader market where major U.S. indices were trading in negative territory. The move was attributed to the combination of confirmed guidance and solid performance in key drug franchises, which gave investors confidence despite the stock remaining well below its 52-week high.
