Portugal's PSI Index Slips 0.38% on Industrial, Consumer Sector Weakness

Portugal's benchmark stock index, the PSI, closed lower on Wednesday, weighed down by declines across the industrial and consumer-focused sectors. The index ended the session down 0.38%, according to market data from the close in Lisbon.
Market Performance in Detail
The negative sentiment was broad, with declining stocks outnumbering advancing ones by a margin of 20 to 6, while four constituents finished the day unchanged. According to a report from Investing.com, the primary drivers of the downturn were losses in the Industrials, Consumer Services, and Consumer Goods sectors.
Leading the laggards was construction firm Mota Engil SGPS SA (ELI:MOTA), which saw its shares fall 3.37%. Other significant decliners included postal service CTT Correios de Portugal SA (ELI:CTT), down 2.03%, and restaurant group Ibersol SGPS (ELI:IBS), which shed 1.78%.
AdEnergy Stocks Buck the Trend
In contrast to the wider market, energy company Galp Energia Nom (ELI:GALP) was a standout performer, rising 1.42%. The gain coincided with a sharp rally in global energy markets, where Brent crude oil futures climbed more than 3.5% to trade at $101.39 a barrel.
Other notable gainers included pulp and paper producers The Navigator Company SA (ELI:NVGR) and Altri SGPS SA (ELI:ALSS), which posted modest gains of 0.68% and 0.53%, respectively. In currency markets, the EUR/USD and EUR/GBP pairs remained relatively stable during the session.
