OpenAI Deployment Company to Acquire Applied AI Firm Northslope

The OpenAI Deployment Company announced its agreement to acquire Northslope, an applied artificial intelligence firm, as reported by Axios. This is the second acquisition for the company, which was established in May 2026 to help enterprises integrate AI into their operations. The first company acquired was the AI deployment firm Tomoro.
The purchase of Northslope will expand the deployment arm's workforce to include hundreds of "forward deployed engineers." These engineers are embedded within customer organizations to help build and implement custom AI systems, assisting employees who may lack the technical expertise to leverage AI models for specific business tasks.
The OpenAI Deployment Company, which is majority-owned and controlled by OpenAI, launched with a $4 billion fund for acquisitions. The financial terms of the Northslope deal were not disclosed, and the transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals.
AdNorthslope's founders have a background at Palantir, a company that utilizes a similar strategy of embedding engineers directly with clients. The approach of providing hands-on deployment services is also being pursued by competitors like Anthropic, which is developing a services company to help businesses use its Claude AI models.
