  • Svenska Cellulosa SCA AB B (ST:SCAb), which was up 1.75% to finish at 104.80.

On the downside, defense and security company SAAB AB ser. B (ST:SAABb) was the biggest laggard, falling 1.61%. ABB Ltd (ST:ABB) and Alfa Laval AB (ST:ALFA) also posted modest declines of 0.46% and 0.38%, respectively. Across the wider Stockholm Stock Exchange, advancing stocks outnumbered decliners 450 to 271, while 69 issues ended unchanged.

The positive performance in Swedish equities coincided with a strengthening of the local currency. The Swedish krona appreciated against major peers, with the EUR/SEK pair falling 0.44% to 11.04 and the USD/SEK pair declining 0.51% to 9.70.

Commodity Backdrop

The gains in Stockholm occurred against a backdrop of significant declines in energy markets. Crude oil for September delivery dropped 3.99% to $88.51 a barrel, while the international benchmark Brent crude fell 4.53% to $96.13 a barrel.

In contrast, precious metals saw gains, with the August Gold Futures contract rising 0.71% to trade at $4,078.80 per troy ounce, as reported by Investing.com.
