OKX, BitGo Expand Off-Exchange Settlement to Global Institutional Clients

Summary
The collaboration allows institutional clients outside the U.S. to trade on OKX's platform while their digital assets remain in segregated custody with BitGo, a move aimed at reducing counterparty risk.
Cryptocurrency exchange OKX and digital asset custodian BitGo have expanded their off-exchange settlement integration to institutional clients outside the United States. The arrangement allows eligible firms to access OKX's trading liquidity while their assets remain secured in segregated custody with BitGo until the point of settlement.
How the Integration Works
This partnership utilizes BitGo's Go Network, which facilitates off-exchange settlement. Traditionally, institutional traders were required to deposit and hold assets directly on a trading venue before executing trades, exposing them to exchange-specific risks. The new model is designed to mitigate this counterparty risk by separating key functions.
Under the agreement:
- Eligible clients can trade across OKX's international liquidity pools.
- Supporting collateral and assets remain in custody with BitGo Singapore Pte. Ltd.
- The assets are only transferred upon final trade settlement.
AdMitigating Risk for Institutions
The separation of custody, execution, and settlement is a critical structural enhancement for institutional investors in the digital asset space. By keeping assets with a dedicated, regulated custodian like BitGo, clients can reduce their direct exposure to the trading venue itself. This expansion builds on an existing relationship established earlier this year when OKX joined the Go Network to serve U.S. institutions.
Both firms operate with regulatory oversight in key financial hubs. BitGo Singapore holds a Major Payment Institution license from the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). OKX operates in the region through its MAS-licensed entity, OKX SG Pte. Ltd., and in the Middle East via its VARA-licensed OKX Middle East Fintech FZE in Dubai.
