Norwegian Air Stock Hits 52-Week Low on Wider Q2 Loss

Summary
The budget carrier's shares fell sharply after it reported a Q2 operating loss of NOK 603 million, missing forecasts due to unexpected legal costs, high fuel prices, and the timing of the Easter holiday.
Shares of Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA (NAS) fell to a 52-week low on Tuesday after the budget airline reported a second-quarter operating loss that was significantly wider than analysts had anticipated, citing several financial headwinds.
The stock dropped 4.1% to a session low of NOK 12.80, matching the stock's 52-week trough, according to data from Investing.com.
Earnings Miss and Key Headwinds
In its Q2 2026 financial results released Tuesday morning, Norwegian Air disclosed an operating loss of NOK 603 million. This figure was substantially worse than the NOK 517 million loss that analysts polled by the company had forecast.
In an investor presentation, CEO Geir Karlsen and CFO Hans-Jørgen Wibstad attributed the disappointing results to three primary factors:
Ad- A Supreme Court ruling that created additional obligations under the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) related to the year 2020.
- Persistently elevated aviation fuel costs.
- The earlier timing of the Easter holiday, which shifted some passenger demand into the first quarter that would typically benefit Q2.
Market and Sector Context
The sell-off occurred amid a broader risk-off tone in global markets, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite both trading lower, adding pressure to growth-sensitive sectors like airlines. Sector peer Norse Atlantic ASA also traded down on the Oslo exchange, indicating some weakness beyond company-specific news.
Technically, the stock had recently broken below a key support level near NOK 14.30, signaling potential for further declines. With the shares now trading well below the consensus analyst price target of NOK 16.70, investors will be closely monitoring future management guidance on cost containment measures and the ongoing impact of the EU ETS liability.
