Nokia Shares Tumble Amid Broad Tech Sell-Off

Shares of Nokia (HEL:NOKIA) fell sharply in recent trading, dropping 8.8% to a low of €8.712 in a move driven by a broad sell-off in the technology sector. The decline erased nearly a week of gains and occurred in the absence of any company-specific news, such as earnings reports or analyst rating changes.
Sector-Wide Pressure Hits AI Stocks
The slide appears to be part of a wider market rotation away from high-momentum stocks linked to artificial intelligence. Investor sentiment soured on the tech sector, with the U.S. NASDAQ Composite index falling 1.8%. The broader S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average also posted losses of 0.7% and 0.2%, respectively.
Nokia's close correlation with U.S. technology markets, reinforced by its American Depositary Receipt (ADR) trading on the New York Stock Exchange, makes its shares particularly sensitive to such downturns. Peer telecom equipment and networking companies also faced similar selling pressure across global exchanges.
AdAI-Fueled Rally Reverses
In recent months, investors have increasingly viewed Nokia as an investment in AI infrastructure, focusing on its optical and IP networking portfolio and data-center connectivity solutions. This perception fueled a significant rally, lifting the stock from a 52-week low of €3.813 to a peak of €14.995.
However, this repositioning has also made the stock vulnerable to sharp periods of profit-taking when sentiment toward AI-exposed equities shifts. The day's trading activity is consistent with this pattern, as the combination of a high-valuation stock and a broad tech sell-off prompted investors to lock in recent profits.
