In other markets, commodity prices saw modest gains. Crude oil futures for August delivery were up 0.61% to $79.43 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.27% to trade at $4,002.70 a troy ounce.
In currency markets, the Japanese yen showed slight strength against major pairs. The USD/JPY was down 0.08% to 162.26, and the EUR/JPY slipped 0.01% to 185.79. The US Dollar Index Futures, which measures the greenback against a basket of currencies, was down 0.09%.
