Nexo Launches Regulated Crypto-Backed Credit Lines in Australia

Digital asset platform Nexo has launched crypto-backed credit lines in Australia after being appointed as a Credit Representative. The move allows the company to offer regulated credit products, giving eligible clients a way to borrow against their digital asset holdings without needing to sell them.
Regulated Lending Product Launch
Nexo announced on August 19 that its new credit lines operate fully under the National Consumer Credit Protection Act, making it one of a few digital asset platforms to offer regulated crypto-backed credit in the country. The company's Australian entity is registered with AUSTRAC as a Virtual Asset Service Provider and is a member of the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA).
The new offering allows clients to access liquidity by using their cryptocurrency as collateral. According to the company, funds can be paid out in Australian dollars (AUD) or stablecoins, typically within 24 hours. This product joins Nexo's existing exchange and its newly rebranded Nexo Growth product on its Australian platform.
Market Context and Product Details
The launch comes as Australian crypto ownership and demand for personal credit are both growing. The announcement cited that nearly one in three Australians owns cryptocurrency and that the country recorded A$9.8 billion in new personal fixed-term loan commitments in the first quarter of 2026, a 14.5% year-over-year increase.
AdKey features of Nexo's Credit Lines include:
- Interest rates ranging from 0.9% to 21.9% per annum, based on the client's loyalty tier.
- No fixed term, no origination fees, and flexible repayment options.
- A 'Collateral Exchange' feature that allows clients to swap collateral assets to rebalance their portfolio without disrupting the credit line.
"We built these products to give Australian clients highly cost-competitive credit and the ability to put their digital assets to work, whilst assessing each product against the applicable Australian framework," said Peter Stanhope, General Manager for Australia at Nexo.
Nexo's Global and Local Presence
The Australian expansion builds on Nexo's established local presence and its global operations. The firm reports having over US$7 billion in assets under management and serves clients across more than 200 jurisdictions. The company noted that borrowing against digital assets involves significant risks, including market volatility, margin calls, and potential liquidation of collateral.
