NBCUniversal and Google's YouTube have reached a significant distribution agreement that will bundle the Peacock streaming service with YouTube Premium subscriptions in the United States. The deal, reported on Monday, also includes a multi-year extension for carrying NBCUniversal's portfolio of television networks on the YouTube TV platform.

Strategic Bundling

Beginning in early 2027, YouTube Premium subscribers will gain access to Peacock's library of original shows and live sports, including NFL and NBA games. According to Reuters, the arrangement marks Peacock's largest wholesale distribution partnership to date.

The move highlights a growing industry trend of bundling streaming services. As subscriber growth moderates across the sector, media companies are increasingly using partnerships to make their offerings more attractive and to share customer acquisition costs.

A Play for Scale

This partnership provides a substantial new distribution channel for Peacock, which recently achieved profitability but is still competing with larger rivals like Netflix and Disney+. The deal gives Peacock access to YouTube Premium's vast user base, which stands at over 125 million global subscribers, dwarfing Peacock's 48 million U.S. subscribers.

The agreement also underscores YouTube's expanding influence in the media landscape. The platform has evolved beyond user-generated content to become a dominant force in television viewing, according to Nielsen rankings, drawing audiences away from traditional broadcast and subscription services.

Deal Background

Talks for the agreement reportedly began nine months ago in a meeting between Comcast Chairman Brian Roberts and YouTube CEO Neal Mohan, according to a person familiar with the situation cited by Reuters. While the Peacock integration is new, the deal also extends the existing carriage agreement for NBC networks on YouTube TV, which was last renewed in October 2025.

NBCUniversal did not disclose the financial terms or the specific length of the new multi-year agreement.
