Background

Russia's benchmark MOEX Index closed flat at the end of the trading session, a figure that masked broader negative sentiment across the Moscow Stock Exchange where declining stocks significantly outpaced advancers.

Market Internals Reveal Weakness

While the main index registered a 0.00% change, the market breadth was decidedly negative. Data from the Moscow Stock Exchange showed 157 companies ending the session lower, compared to just 69 that advanced, with 18 stocks remaining unchanged.

This underlying weakness was also reflected in investor sentiment, as the Russian Volatility Index (RVI) hit a new six-month high of 46.01, signaling increased market uncertainty.

Key Stock Performance

Several major Russian companies experienced significant declines, with some falling to historic lows. The session's worst performers were concentrated in the mining, telecom, and banking sectors.
